Benefits of Surya Namaskar

Digestive System

While performing the various poses of Surya Namaskar in a sequence, it works on the abdomen by stretching it and compressing it alternatively. This does a healthy massage to all the internal vital organs in the abdominal cavity and even the intestines. The abdominal massage helps in the proper functioning of the organs and intestines thus improving the digestive system.

Elimination of the unwanted and waste material from the body is as essential as keeping the necessary nutrients. Some times due to improper digestion and constipation one may not be able to get rid of their intestinal waste completely, but due to regular practice of Surya Namaskar one can overcome the problem of constipation.

Kidney is another important organ that helps in the excretion of waste material from the body. Surya Namaskar massages these two organs, increases the supply of blood to them and even regulate their improper functioning.

Sweat is another way of body to get rid of waste. All skin problems normally originate because of accumulation of toxins on the skin. If we sweat profusely, then all the skin pores would be washed and lessen the toxins on skin. Surya Namaskar leads to increased perspiration and releases toxins from the body.

Circulatory System

Surya Namaskar is a good cardio exercise and increases the heart rate, thus working on the whole circulatory system. Otherwise unapproachable areas also receive blood and every cell of the body receive nutrients. The lymphatic system also gets speeded up with Surya Namaskar thus strengthening the body’s immune system.

Respiratory System

In this fast paced lifestyle people tend to breathe superficially in short and shallow breaths. This leads to lack of oxygen  and accumulation of carbon dioxide in the body. When the lungs are not used to their fullest capacity this tends to increase germs in the body, causing other illnesses. When we coordinate breath with Surya Namaskar we make our breath deep and long thus reaching all the alveoli of the lungs resulting in maximum exchange of air during inhalation and exhalation.

Endocrine System

Endocrine system comprise of all the glands in the body that release necessary hormones for all the vital activities such as growth and development, harmony, stress and happiness, sex and reproduction, metabolism etc. If any of these organs are disturbed and the hormonal release is affected, it will affect the entire health status. Surya Namaskar works on almost all the glands regulating the correct release of necessary hormones.

Nervous System

All the organs of the body communicate with the brain through the mesh of nervous system. The brain commands the organs through these nerves. It is the channel of communication between brain and the rest of the body. If the body and its organs are healthy but the nerves are not healthy, then it will lead to improper functions in the body. Surya Namaskar tones the nerves in the whole of the body especially the spinal cord running through the spine, by working on the spine in the forward and the backward direction.
